Introduction

I have some basic ideas and plans for a commune property. I suspect the most common option will be either proper full-build houses, tiny homes or shipping containers put together to make up a home. These are the options available when setting up.

We will be including a few plans for this at a later date that you can review and select when you're ready to join the Commune.

Materials will be most likely brick and mortar with some wood and metal. Mexico primarily builds with these materials because it reduces the chances of a fire happening and spreading throughout the city.

Community Center

Materials will likely be brick and mortar. Expect a minimum of at least 3 rooms. There will also be an outside space as well.

  1. Large community space for at least a group or more to congregrate.
  2. Large kitchen. Bathrooms are a given as well.
  3. Large office space for those that wish to have a work-station or space to work in. In other words, conference rooms or co-working spaces? Could also be separated out into a technical workspace below.
  4. Perhaps a communal washer/dryer area as well?

Cost will probably be at least $20k+, simply due to the size of the building to serve multiple common needs.

Parking spaces

At least one, or more parking spaces will be available. It will be a covered space and have solar panels on it to help facilitate solar generation. This space will be sufficiently large enough to accomodate at least one RV. Certainly at least one passenger van will be available.

Other vehicles such as bikes, trikes and the like will also be available.

EV chargers will also be eventually made available when EV cars show up.

Workspaces

Depending on the workspace, there will likely be at least a 20' or 40' shipping container allocated to the workspaces for use by the given area. Along with tooling and electricals, fuel, etc ran to each location.

This will require input from commune members more familiar with this aspect.

If a technical workspace is to be built, this sort of space will have a server room that contains at least 1 server and networking equipment set up in this room. It will also serve as a connection point for all buildings to connect back to. Minimum network connections will be 1Gbit and likely more. Fiber will be provided everywhere.

Workstations will be allocated, along with desks, chairs, etc if desired. It will be configured to your needs.

Pros: Infinitely configurable depending on needs.

Cons: Running all the shit, lol. But also, $$$$. If metal-working, could probably start out with a pole-barn style building for outside welding and forging, etc. Wood-working'd probably need to be an indoor space?

Onsite facilities

Solar array, this will likely take many forms, dependent on buildings but there will be an on-site building where solar power will be backhauled to, along with meters allocated per-site for tracking and billing, if you'd rather not finance your own solar array and just want to contribute to a central array.

Water generation, likely per-building water generation in addition to mains sewer and water, along with tracking and billing.

Full Build Homes

Materials: Brick and mortar, or other materials.

Pros: Maximum flexibility in how you want a home set up. Can be multi-story.

Cons: Pricy af if using contractors, but that's to be expected.

General costs: At least $10k a building? According to the internet, typically costs somewhere between $10k+ and 50k+. This depends basically on how you design your home.

Tiny Homes

For those that do not wish to deal with a kitchen space and just want a living room and bedroom or two, this'll likely be your best bet.

Pros: Cheap, easy to build and fast to build. You could even design the building yourself!

Cons: $$$, space.

Shipping Containers

You can actually buy a shipping container from anywhere between 20' and 40' containers and have them shipped to your area. From there, you can set up a container as you like. There's plenty of Youtube videos on the subject.

Pros: Fastest in terms of building and putting into use. Can be multi-story and configured in many different ways.

Cons: $$$ if starting from scratch.

General costs: At least $10k -- somewhere between $2k and $5k is common for a usable container. The rest is in how you build out your container. e.g., insulation, running electricals, water, sewage, etc.

RVs

Pros: Easy to obtain. Easy to redesign if you don't like its looks.

Cons: Could require repair and/or build-up of a trailer or RV vehicle depending on what you choose.

General costs: Anywhere between free, or minimal costs like $500 and... well, infinity really.

Apartment-style building.

If an apartment style building, this will be the most expensive because we'll need to decide what size bedrooms and bathrooms, kitchens, etc are to be set up.

Pros: Easy to be close to others.

Cons: Expensive af, depending on factors. Expect probably somewhere around $50k as a starting point, probably? I honestly don't know how much this would cost, or if it'd be even feasible for me to kickstart because this will require investment and take the longest to build.
